Did you know that peaches are native to Northwest China and are harvested from a peach tree? Specifically, peaches are found and cultivated between the Tarim Basin and the Kunlun Shan mountains’ north slopes. A peach also belongs to the genus prunus, which is the same Rosaceae family as the plum and cherry. Also, the scientific name of a peach is persica. In Europe, an early belief was that a peach originated from Persia. In early Rome, a peach was also referred to as malum persicum or the Persian apple. Interesting and delicious, there are so many things to discover about peaches.
